Evil Dead star Shiloh Fernandez has admitted that he’s got no regrets over missing out to Robert Pattinson for the role of Edward Cullen in Twilight, despite losing out on the major pay checks and stardom that of course came with it.

The Evil Dead star, in Austin for SXSW festival promoting the remake of Sam Raimi’s cult horror classic was reportedly original Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke’s first choice for the role of Cullen, but Kristen Stewart insisted that it be Rob.

When asked by EntertainmentWise if he had any regrets on missing out, Shiloh replied: “Missed out? Or dodged out?”

In 2011 Hardwicke told a Twilight fan panel, “After we finished the whole thing and we had met bachelors one, two, three and four, Kristen said, ‘It has to be Rob.’ She basically threatened me,” according to OK! Magazine.

“We’re human beings you know, if you wish to be somebody else then… So for me that wasn’t the right thing, it wouldn’t have worked if I’d got in that place,” Fernandez explained, stating that he regards the role as not the right one now.

“It’s hard to imagine, and put yourself in that place to be honest, but I’ve been super lucky with the people that I’ve got to work with,” the star continued, and has every right to be as Evil Dead has been a moderate festival success.

Fernandez got to work with Hardwicke in the end, as she cast him in Red Riding Hood alongside Les Miserables star Amanda Seyfred in 2011, but the global fame has eluded the relaxed star, something he didn’t seem overly concerened about.

“I’m grateful making movies that I love to do and that I think are awesome,” Fernandez said, revealing that he’s very happy starring in Evil Dead rather than being at the centre of the media circus that has surrounded Twilight since the first film in 2008.
